The student must take and pass an FAA medical exam before their solo flight. GEFA requires that the student take their medical exam as early as possible; suggested to take medical after their first lesson, but no later than their 5th to 10th hour of flight training.
The student’s progress will be reviewed at the end of their first 5 hours of flight training, and approximately every 10 hours thereafter; if in the opinion of the scholarship committee the student is not making satisfactory progress, then the scholarship may be withdrawn. In the case of discontinuance, the instructor shall refund any unused prepaid funds to both the student and to GEFA.
APPROXIMATE TIMETABLE5/1: Last date to submit application packet to GEFA.
Second week of May: applicants notified of oral interview dates.
Last week of May: ORAL INTERVIEWS AT NEVADA COUNTY AIRPORT.

First week of June: AIRPORT MEETING: Scholarship Recipients, Parents (If Minor), Flight Instructors, & GEFA.
To be successful and optimize flight-training costs, a student should fly at least once per week, with a minimum of 5 hours per month! As a rule, the more hours a student flies in a condensed period, the easier it will be to become a proficient pilot.
