August 2009

The meeting started at 7:11 p.m.  Doug Young asked for approval of the August minutes — They were approved.

The treasurers report was read by Karen Smith with the GEFA account having $3900.69.  The Airfest account having $28,056.12 — Karen has a profit and loss statement for those who might be interested in seeing.

Guests in attendance was Tom Engleman and his wife Carol

Tim O'Brien did a final rap up on Airfest.  He is setting up the Thank You notice for the volunteers with certificates and T-shirts.

Gary Gulliat suggested that we should fund the airfest separate account with $20,000.00 so Tim doesn’t have to worry about whether or not we can do an Airfest 2011.

Lively discussion followed and some members stated that half the proceeds were EAA ‘s and that we couldn’t vote for EAA.  GEFA members wanted to vote and approved the resolution as follows.  Rusty brought up that EAA needs to make this decision also.  Karen brought up that the two boards needed to meet to come up with a mutual agreement has how to fund and and make our airfest the best one around and to have funds available each year

RESOLUTION #08-20-2009
“AIRFEST ACCOUNT START UP MONEY FOR 2011 AIRFEST”
IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT WE KEEP $20,000 IN THE ACCOUNT FOR THE NEXT AIRFEST.  AFTER A LIVELY DISCUSSION THE MEMBERS OF GEFA VOTED AND APPROVED WITH 2 OPPOSED.  THE NEXT STEP is to set up meeting between the two boards.

New Business:
The Wards wanted to let the group know they would be at the Reno Air races.
For information on airfest Rusty told us there is a list on the EAA web site that gives a breakdown of the pancake breakfast to help anyone who wants to step in and take charge of this event at anytime. Thanks Rusty.

Guest speaker TOM ENGLEMAN Talked to all of us about putting an internet interface at the airport for an AWAS connection with local Nevada County weather at our airport. There is a cost to this so he wanted to bring it up to GEFA so we could think about and get involved in the procedure. The service would provide

  1. Cell tower network install box X-25 for $1500 plus $80.00 a month for service
  2. service provider box with server will have internet access.

Pilots cannot use their cell phone aloft so this will be a great help.  Gary was suggesting that the fee could be split by GEFA and EAA and then we can go to the county for the monthly fee or split that also.  This is food for thought.  He has gone to the airport commission and know is bringing the information to the pilot community. Thank you Tom for your presentation.
